Unexpected twist on the Road Atlanta virtual race track - double victory for R8G Esports.
Last weekend, the 5th race of the PECCD24 took place at Road Atlanta, the last race weekend before the final. But once again, the race ended with a surprise: Similar to the previous race at Orchard Road, Maximilian Benecke was unable to win the main race and even retired early in races 1 and 2. Instead, R8G Esports won the main race with a double victory and the question of who will emerge as the winner of the PECCD24 remains exciting!
The race weekend started with an exciting qualifying session in which Maximilian Benecke, Jiri Toman and Thibault Cazaubon battled hard for first place. Benecke managed to take the lead by just a few hundredths of a second and finished the race in first place with an impressive performance, securing pole position for the first race.
Race 1 began with technical problems for Benecke in 1st place, who had to retire from the race early. This opened the door to a thrilling duel for the top spot between R8G Esports teammates Toman, who had started from 2nd place, and Cazaubon, who had started from 3rd place. Early on in the race, Cazaubon pulled off an impressive overtaking maneuver that allowed him to move into first place, where he finished the race.
There was no lack of excitement in race 2 either: Benecke started in 12th place after the technical problems in race 1 and fought his way up to 8th place on the first lap. However, he was spun by Flavio Tusithiphonexay in a corner and dropped out of the race, whereupon Tusithiphonexay received a 10-second time penalty and slipped from eighth to tenth place. Kimi Haapala showed outstanding driving skills throughout the race, but was unable to improve his position due to a crash into the wall. Cazaubon was delighted with the outcome of the race and his triumph, relegating his team-mate Toman to second place, followed by Christopher Dambietz in third. Moritz Löhner narrowly missed out on the podium and finished in fourth place.
The unexpected twists and turns on the 5th race weekend once again open up all possibilities for the outcome of the grand finale on April 6, 2024. Who will be able to secure victory in the PECCD24?
