Race Report – The second race of the PECCD24 at Spa-Francorchamps

Maximilian Benecke still at the top of the Porsche Esports Carrera Cup Germany 2024 after the second race!

The virtual venue was the legendary Ardennes rollercoaster, the Spa-Francorchamps racetrack. The Spa circuit with a length of about 7 km provided plenty of action with its very fast corners!

Maximilian Benecke once again dominated the in pre-qualification and secured his pole position for Sunday. Unexpectedly, his teammate Moritz Löhner, one of the top simracers of the PECCD24, finished 9th in the pre-qualification. However, Löhner managed to fight his way to the front on the main race on Sunday and successfully defended his second place in the overall PECCD24 leaderboard. Four new Simracers also made it into the field for the second race at Spa: Enzo Bonito, Michal Šmìdl, Michał Pochopień and Luca Wieninger.

The race Sunday started with a very close qualifying session. Benecke took first place, followed by Bonito and Patrik Holzmann. Löhner caught up in the qualifying and secured his 4th place on the grid. The first race provided plenty of action straight away: there was a heavy crash between the two teammates, Jiri Toman and Thibault Cazaubon. Toman dropped back and finished at 10th place. The front of the field fought hard, but nobody was able to take the lead from Benecke. In race 2, the drivers tried hard, as in the second race the points count. Cazaubon made a fatal driving error and slipped from 5th to 9th place. However, a 5-second time penalty for Dambietz meant that Cazaubon moved ahead of Dambietz into 8th place. Benecke won the race, with Bonito in 2nd place and Löhner in 3rd. Bonito made a strong first appearance at the PECCD24 - will he be able to maintain his position in the third race in Monza or even manage to be the first driver to beat Benecke? It remains exciting!
