Porsche in the IMSA 2024: an overview

Porsche Penske Motorsport starts its second season

It is a special season for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, as the racing series is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year. Founded in 2013, the highest American sports car championship started its first season in 2014. It is held at race tracks throughout North America and in Canada. For the Porsche Penske Motorsport Team, the current season is the second in a row: last year, the crew celebrated the premiere with the Porsche 963 and gained a lot of racing experience with the two hybrid prototypes #6 and #7. Experience that the drivers now want to push to new heights.

Mathieu Jaminet (#6): Mathieu Jaminet's love of motorsport was already evident in his youth in France: before entering Formula 4 at the age of 16, he spent a lot of time on the kart track. This was followed by an entry into GT racing and the Porsche Carrera Cup France. His plan for the new season: fight hard, stay fair and have fun.

Nick Tandy (#6):
A veteran on the race track: Nick Tandy is a professional through and through. He has been in the cockpit for 25 years and has achieved many good results in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup Championship and the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland. From 2013 to 2020, the Briton drove for Porsche as a works driver in the GT class of the IMSA.

Kévin Estre (#6): Racing from an early age: He was four years old when he sat behind the wheel of a kart for the first time. His enthusiasm for motorsport never left him. His experience in single-seaters was followed by successes in the Carrera Cup in France, in the Porsche One-Make series and in the GTE Pro class of the World Endurance Championship. As a Porsche works driver, he now wants to drive the 963 towards the podium. The Frenchman actually drives in the WEC - at the 24 Hours of Daytona he supports the IMSA team.

Laurens Vanthoor (#6): His biggest dream: the 24 Hours of Le Mans. After gaining racing experience in European Formula 3 and entering GT racing, he now has the chance not only to fulfill his dream as a Porsche works driver, but also to win both endurance races. Le Mans in the new hypercar class of the WEC, in which he competes as a works driver. And at the 24 Hours of Daytona. Together with Kévin Estre, he will strengthen the Porsche Penske Motorsport team there.

Dane Cameron (#7): As the son of a racing engineer, Dane Cameron was interested in motorsport and technical subjects from an early age. He is characterized by passion, consistency and perseverance. The American has a lot of experience on the race track and has already driven numerous prototypes in the IMSA. Porsche therefore brought him into the team right at the start of the 963 test phase.

Felipe Nasr (#7): He wants to get better every day - 13 years of racing experience make the driver a true professional. The Brazilian knows many racing series and circuits: whether Formula 3, Formula 1, Formula E or the forerunner of the IMSA GTP class. Incidentally, he crowned his first full season in the IMSA with a huge success: the drivers' title. The 963 is set to continue in the same vein.

Matt Campbell (#7): Like many of his colleagues, Matt Campbell has motorsport in his blood and began his racing career at a young age. The Australian was selected as a Porsche Junior Driver and later became a Porsche Young Professional Driver. With the 963, he is now aiming for victories in prototype and endurance races - and is supporting the team at the 24 Hours of Daytona.

Josef Newgarden (#7): The American is the IndyStar Series champion and has been driving for Team Penske since 2017. At the endurance race in Daytona, he completes the Porsche Penske Motorsport team in the #7 car.
