Trust in old partnerships.
2024 onwards, the LMGT3 class will be introduced to the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). In this new GT class, Porsche Motorsport will be participating with their long-time partner Manthey Racing.
After the termination of the GTE Pro class in the FIA WEC with the conclusion of the 2022 season, this year, GT vehicles only participated in the amateur class GTE Am. This is where the Porsche Customer Racing Teams are currently participating in the races with the Porsche 911 RSR. From 2024 onwards, the LMGT3 class will be introduced and with that, new teams get the chance to participate in the endurance race championship. For Porsche Motorsport, Team Manthey will enter the grid with the newest generation of the Porsche 911 GT3 R.
As the grid will become quite full with 20 to 22 Hypercar vehicles, manufacturer teams such as Manthey will only be able to enter with two vehicles. Due to that, Porsche Customer Racing Teams were highly interested to be selected as official manufacturer team.
The reduced amount of vehicles has been disappointing for Michael Dreiser, Director of Sales at Porsche Motorsport. For him, Customer Racing is an important factor for Porsche, "The small number of allocated grid positions in the new LMGT3 field of the WEC doesn’t quite do justice to Porsche Motorsport’s broad-based approach to customer racing, unfortunately."
