Da Costa welcomed to the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team

António Félix Da Costa, the 2019/2020 champion, joins forces with Pascal Wehrlein on the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team.

Season 9 of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship is just around the corner. And, extra race fixtures and brand-new racecars aside, the arrival of António Félix Da Costa is perhaps the most exciting news for the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team.

The dynamic 30-year-old driver from Portugal is already a highly regarded veteran of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship: a strong contender since his very first season in 2014 he has 96 races, seven wins, 16 podium finishes and seven pole positions under his belt. His finest season was 2019/20, when he won the overall Championship trophy. But now his focus is firmly on reaching greater heights, paired up with Pascal Wehrlein and the rest of the team.

“It’s like a dream come true. I’m really looking forward to cracking on and winning races for this team,” says António, “I’ve been beaten by a Porsche many times in my career, and not only in Formula E, so I know that Porsche does everything to win. It’s in the brand’s DNA. I share the same ambition and can hardly wait to bond with the team and work together to ensure a successful start to the Gen3 era.”

António’s enthusiasm for seeking new thrills has been the hallmark of his racing career. A self-proclaimed “motorsport junkie” he began racing aged 12, karting for five years. In 2008 he entered the Formula Renault 2.0 Cup – an impressive debut where he took second place. He hasn’t slowed down since, earning a slew of accolades in various racing series, including winning the legendary Macau Grand Prix in 2012 and 2016. In 2022, he clinched a class win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. He has also been a Formula 1 test driver for Red Bull.

When not racing, training or promoting Formula E, Da Costa also enjoys football, motocross and surfing. Away from the limelight, you’ll find the Lisbon native living in laid-back Cascais, with a handful of local surf spots nearby – and the legendary big waves of Nazare within striking range. A reminder that, whether on land or sea, for António Félix Da Costa nothing beats the thrill of the ride.
