Festival of Speed: GT4 e-Performance Tour Kickoff in Goodwood

At the legendary Goodwood Festival of Speed, the all-electric Porsche GT4 e-Performance prototype demonstrated its performance to the public for the very first time as it kicked off its world tour.

Goodwood. The all-electric Porsche GT4 e-Performance's demonstration of speed at the Lord March Estate in the southern English county of West Sussex marked the start of its world tour. It is to take the innovative electric concept car to further venues over the next two years.

The goal: displaying the potential of the advanced vehicle concept and the possibilities of associated racing formats to motorsport customer teams, partners and decision-makers from the racing scene.

Le Mans class winner Richard Lietz demonstrated the performance of the electric race car on the 1.9-kilometer hillclimb at Goodwood.

I already knew the GT4 e-Performance from the test drives. It's extremely fast and much fun to drive - that's how I imagine the electrically powered customer sports racing car of the future.

Porsche has reconstructed around 6,000 parts for the GT4 e-Performance. Its design was created by a Porsche Style team led by designer Grant Larson. Among other things, the body is made of natural fiber composites, the production of which is said to generate fewer emissions than the production of comparable synthetic materials.

Thanks to broader flared fenders, the race car is 14 centimeters wider than a 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport which allows for even wider 18-inch Michelin racing tires, made predominantly from bio-based or recycled materials.

The GT4 e-Performance utilizes the technology components of the Mission R. With this concept study, Porsche had presented its vision of an all-electric GT racing car for the future of customer motorsport at the IAA MOBILITY 2021 in Munich. Both are based on the chassis of the well-known 718 GT4 Clubsport model. Also, the electric motor & battery technology of the test vehicle was taken from the Mission R. This means maximum outputs in qualifying mode of up to 800 kW (1,088 hp). In terms of lap time performance and top speed, the GT4 e-Performance is based on the current 992-generation 911 GT3 Cup. Thanks to its 900-volt technology, the battery's storage level can shoot up from five to 80 percent SoC (State of Charge) in around 15 minutes.

The GT4 e-Performance paves the way for Porsche customer racing with electrically powered race cars.

The all-electric prototype will embark on a world tour sponsored by seven partners. All the companies involved, including TAG Heuer, Hugo Boss and DB Schenker, regard the tour as a platform to promote the topic of sustainability together with Porsche Motorsport.
Following its world premiere at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the GT4 e-Performance is heading towards further venues: On August 20, 2022, it’s the Porsche plant in Leipzig / Germany, that is on the agenda. This year marks the plant's 20th anniversary. The plant itself features a 3.7-kilometer circuit with iconic sections of world-famous racetracks. The GT4 e-Performance cars will then travel through Europe before heading to North America in early 2023. Eventually, the world tour will come to an end in the Asia-Pacific region, where the all-electric racing vehicle will be moving about until mid 2024 - of course, in a sustainable manner by ship, train and truck.
