After the sixth race of the TAG Heuer Esports Supercup at the Canadian Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, the top sim racers of the standings are getting closer and closer. Pinto defends his lead, but his advantage is getting smaller. Meanwhile, Tyson "Quirkitized" Meier wins twice in the All-Star Race.
This time it was "Bienvenue au Québec!" for our 35 iRacing pilots. The infamous racetrack in Canada had only a few surprises in store, but the results promise an even tighter and more exciting title fight towards the end of the season.
Dayne Warren secures his second win of the season
As for the Coanda driver, the season started well with a victory in the first sprint race in Hockenheim. But, with two retirements and mid-table finishes over the season, copping a top-10 finish seemed unlikely. However, with a win in the main race, Warren is now ranked eighth in the overall standings. Due to his P8 in the sprint, the Australian was able to start in pole position, and he maintained his lead to the finish.
Zac Campbell wins sprint race
Having won the sprint just prior to the main race, Zac Campbell also finished with his second victory of the season. Earning 15 more points for P6 in the main race, the American has kept up with the front-runners in the standing. He is currently in fourth place in the standings – just 45 points behind the leader Diogo C. Pinto.
In turn, Pinto scored important points again, placing sixth in the sprint race and third in the main race. These enable him to defend his lead in the standings ahead of Kevin Ellis Jr. and Sebastian Job. Nevertheless, it remains exciting. Only 29 points separate Pinto in first place from Job in third. Kevin Ellis Jr. in second place is a little closer to the leader with 21 points.
Double victory for Tyson „Quirkitized“ Meier in the All-Star races
The Content Creators also competed on the Canadian track in the All-Star race. Tyson Meier won the first podium of the evening with a clear win from start to finish. Second and third places went to Xabier “Heikki360ES” Sanchez from Spain and Dan “Suzuki” Sosulski from Germany. Season leader Emily Jones had to settle for seventh place in the end after an accident immediately after the start.
The second run was much more eventful for Meier, who started in twelfth place due to the reversed order and worked his way safely to the front. After a collision in the third round, he dropped back to fourth place, but still managed to secure first place in front of Zazo and Jones at the finish. The latter was only classified ninth after a time penalty. Third place thus went to the German Mathieu "rAii" Wacker from DiePixelHelden.
From Canada to a Spa weekend in Belgium
With the upcoming Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, we are in for another highlight of the season. The long "Ardennes rollercoaster" is known for its fast corner combinations and strong compressions. An environment in which title contender Sebastian Job feels at home. In 2019, he not only drove the fastest lap in both races, but also took a double victory in 2020 and 2021. We'll see whether he can repeat this on 23 April from 21:15 (CEST). As usual, the All-Stars will start the race evening at 19:30.
