Silverstone is one of the absolute highlights on the racing calendar for motorsports fans. It certainly was for Alejandro Sanchez, who took first place once again, after winning here in 2020, thus placing himself among the top ten in the season standings.
We’re almost halfway through the season, yet no clear favourite has emerged in this year’s Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup. Fans couldn’t wish for a more exciting contest.
For the fourth race, the 35 participating Sim Racers headed to the British Silverstone Circuit, where 2020 winner Spaniard Alejandro Sanchez (SDK Gaming) experienced déjà vu, by finishing in first place.
Sebastian Job back in the front rows
After incidents in the first races, the start of the season looked anything but good for the 2020 champion Sebastian Job. But at Silverstone, he proved his mettle by winning the sprint race. This, combined with his success at the Autódromo José Carlos Pace, secured him fifth place in the leaderboard. Only one point now separates him from his two compatriots Jamie Fluke in 4th place and Kevin Ellis Jr. in 3rd.
German Maximilian Benecke of Team Redline finished the race in second place and thus stays in the top ten. Third place in the sprint race went to Benecke's teammate Diogo C. Pinto, the current leader of the standings.
Head-to-head duel for the first place
After coming eighth in the sprint race, Alejandro Sanchez started from pole position in the main race. Only Charlie Collins was able to challenge the Spaniard for the top spot during the 14-lap race.
On the tenth lap, Sanchez regained the lead with a clever manoeuvre, to win by a narrow margin of 0.284 seconds. Campbell, Pinto, Benecke and Job followed in third, fourth, fifth and sixth places respectively.
With a 20-point lead, Pinto extended his renewed lead in the standings. But Zac Campbell in second place has also shown a consistent performance since the second race in Spain. The competition between these two for the season lead looks promising.
The three Brits lying third, fourth and fifth - Kevin Ellis Jr, Jamie Fluke and Sebastian Job - are also providing thrills. Only one point separates these drivers from each other.
Further down the line, Frenchman Jeremy Bouteloup will probably want to forget the race as soon as possible. Finishing 11th in the sprint race and 26th in the main race, he lost crucial points and is falling back to sixth place in the season.
Jaroslav Honzik and Casey Kirwan win All-Star Race
Before the main races at Silverstone, Czech driver Jaroslav "Jardier" Honzik and American guest driver Casey Kirwan already provided some highlights of the day in the All-Star race.
With a daring manoeuvre, Jardier overtook several drivers on the sixth lap of the sprint race and took the lead until the end. Kirwan was taken out of the classification in the first race due to too many penalty points. Only to make a comeback in the second race. After starting in fourth place, he slowly worked his way past the competition to the top and secured first place on the podium at the end. For Jardier, however, only seventh place was in reach after a drive-through penalty.
Austria’s PESC debut
Next Saturday, the PESC will enter the next round. This time, a premiere awaits the 35 Sim Racers with the Red Bull Ring in Austria, as the well-known Formula 1 circuit is represented in the series for the first time. After a short break, we are looking forward to another virtual race weekend. Once again, the All-Stars will kick things off in the livestream from 6.30 p.m. (CET).
