Season opener 2021: Some things are the same – yet different.

The TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team will start the new season with a doubleheader in Diriyah. And this season opener truly packs a punch – in many ways.

Not only will the first race take place in the same city in Saudi Arabia where the history of the all-electric racing series for the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team began in 2019/2020 – but also where André Lotterer made it to the podium in his debut race. He scored a fantastic second place on the very first day of racing.

Whether he will make it onto the podium again – we'll see. But definitely not under the Saudi Arabian sun: Because this time the race will not take place by daylight, but at night. Another premiere in Diriyah – not only for the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team, but for all teams. For this purpose, Formula E will have the racetrack brightly illuminated with LEDs. In keeping with the Formula E philosophy, this of course will be powered entirely by electricity from renewable resources. The spectacle begins at 6 p.m. Central European Time, which corresponds to 8 p.m. local time and thus about two hours after sunset. So not only will the light be different from the Diriyah races of previous years, but presumably the temperature will also be somewhat cooler.

Different lighting conditions, different temperatures – in general, everything is different this year. Even if the race starts in the same city as usual. In any case, the heat is on. We can’t wait.
