„If 2020 were a racetrack, it would be the Nordschleife.”

What was the year like for you? What’s your view of things?

This year had its ups and downs for me. That’s how you could put it. But there were many up sides.

How did motorsport change for you in 2020?

Motorsport changed in one main aspect. We had less people at the racetracks – no matter which race series. Many worked from home or from the Operations Room. And it worked perfectly. We learned to work even better in a digital context.

The last 3 months of the year were a highlight for Porsche Motorsport.

Despite everything, what was your motorsport highlight?

Choosing one highlight is tough. In the end, it was a successful year with 2 podiums and one pole position in Formula E, a victory in the Petit Le Mans and in the 24 Hours of Spa. The success in customer racing adds into that. Just last week, we celebrated the championship victory in the IGTC as manufacturer. If it were up to me, I’d say the last 3 months of the year were a highlight for Porsche Motorsport.”

That’s my lesson learned in the year 2020.

What’s your takeaway from 2020 for yourself?

My takeaway of the year is needing to find a good balance between what you can do digitally and where personal contact is important. That’s my lesson learned in the year 2020.

If this year were a racetrack, which would it be and why?

With all the ups and downs, I’d pick the Nordschleife. In the end, there were several highlights, but there were some bumps in the road. It required constant adaption. And this ability defined us. That’s why were so successful in 2020.

What are your personal goals for 2021?

My personal goal for the next year is the first victory in the Formula E and the battle for the world championship.

This announcement was an early Christmas present for me.

A few days ago, the entry into the LMDh class was announced. Does it bring back memories of the LMP1 Project?

Definitely. We still regularly talk about the time in LMP1. And now we’re returning to Le Mans and can’t wait. The announcement was an early Christmas present for me.
