Grande Finale.

Just a few days until the season finale of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2020, and the location couldn’t be better. The Autodromo Nazionale Monza is the fastest circuit on the racing calendar, and only here will the title be decided.

In terms of excitement, it’s almost impossible to beat the level at which we are heading into Round 8 of the Supercup season. The field is expected to grow to an astounding 30 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars this weekend; all poised to enter the time-honoured circuit as part of the Formula 1 Gran Premio Heineken D’Italia 2020. And the three titles in the Overall, Rookie and Team Classification are still up for grabs.

Only four points separate #2 Dylan Pereira (LUX/BWT Lechner Racing) and #25 Larry ten Voorde (NED/Team GP Elite), who are in a head-to-head battle for the Overall Championship crown. Theoretically speaking, even #22 Ayhancan Güven (TUR/Martinet by Alméras) could have a chance of winning the Supercup, provided ten Voorde and Pereira (in a highly unlikelyscenario), don’t finish the race, that he’d have to win of course. That being said, there have been some rousing final races in Supercup history – for example Uwe Alzen vs. Altfrid Heger 1993 in Hockenheim.

We will reach a fever pitch at the final in Monza this weekend. What an extraordinary season. This is Porsche one-make cup action at its best.

A circuit designed for spectacle.

Since 1922, Monza has been at the heart of Italian motor racing. Located inside the Royal Park, the circuit is the last high-speed track of modern times. It boasts a length of 5.8 km, which includes ten curves, some of them very fast like the famous Parabolica. In between isthe real spice of the Autodromo: high-speed straights. Drivers are required to use each other’s slipstream at 280 km/h in order to get into position next to their opponents heading into the chicanes. This means maximum load on engines, brakes and tyres. Depending on a car’s set-up, if there’s too little pressure in the slicks, Monza’s high curbs can make or break a victory. In2019, #1 Jaxon Evans (NZL/BWT Lechner Racing) impressed us with a superb poletime of 1:49.252 minutes. Nevertheless, Larry ten Voorde won the race last year, just like both rounds of this year’s Virtual Edition Supercup #GrandeFinale in Monza. Will he be taking home two titles this season?

Decision time.

The final weekend and the 22nd Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup race in Monza kicks-off as always Friday evening with the Free Practice Session. The Qualifying Session will be on Saturday at 1:45pm (CEST) – and we are thrilled to see who is going to start from pole position. The #GrandeFinale will begin Sunday at 12:25pm (CEST). All events can be watched live on Sport 1, Eurosport and Formula 1 TV. And despite Supercup being a part of the Formula 1 Gran Premio Heineken D’Italia 2020, the fight for the championship is even more exciting, than inthe motorsport premier class.
