Accelerating Passion.

Usually the Porsche Supercup teams would have met in March at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya to awaken their Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars from winter hibernation; and driven the second race in early May. But nothing is usual about this season.

The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup field doesn’t normally run on the Catalonian track so late in the year. With the season already in full swing and the Barcelona summer temperatures soaring, it seems to fit the pressure level that the participants are facing headed into Round 6. It’s definitely the smoking phase of the championship where every point counts.

Nothing has been decided at this stage of the championship. Overall leader, #2 Dylan Pereira (LUX/BWT Lechner Racing) is only ahead of his closest rival, #25 Larry ten Voorde (NED/Team GP Elite) by four points. In the Rookie Classification four drivers are fighting for the top spot. And since last weekend’s podium at Silverstone, #12 Philipp Sager (AUT/Dinamic Motorsport) is also a contender for the victory in the ProAm Classification.

We expect a close race between the Rookies. In Barcelona things are tricky: Some good passages to overtake – so the slightest mistake has consequences. It requires being completely concentrated from the first to last second of the race.

It’s not the first time that the drivers are “meeting” in Barcelona this year. In early April, the first two rounds of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup Virtual Edition took place here: In racing simulators. It was here that Güven and ten Voorde kicked off their series of duels, each with one victory. The back and forth lasted through the final virtual race at Monza; Pereira was also one of the front runners. Coincidence? More likely the skill of exceptionally talented drivers.

Barcelona will be challenging again.

Round 6 of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2020 marks the 26th race that the series will have been held on the circuit just outside of Barcelona. The 4.655 km long track is well known for its long and fast corners as well as its specific opportunities to overtake. Plus, the Catalonian track’s combined high speeds with scorching hot temperatures are ultra-demanding on both man and machine. Will Michael Ammermüller’s best pole time from 2018 of 1:47.252 min. hold this weekend? Let’s see.

The race weekend begins with the Free Practice Session this Friday evening, followed by Saturday afternoon’s Qualifying Session, which decides who will lead the field on Sunday. Round 6 of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2020 will be this Sunday beginning at lunchtime, 12:25pm (CEST) just before the F1 cars compete in the Formula 1 Aramco Gran Premio De España 2020. As always, all race weekend events will be broadcast live by Sport1, Eurosport, and Formula 1 TV.
