7/1/2020

Spielberg is calling.

Anticipation has 10 curves and two golden horns: Red Bull Ring in Spielberg is the spectacular setting of the first race of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2020, as part of the Formula 1 Großer Preis von Österreich.

When the premier class of one-make racing kick’s off the 2020 season from 3rd to 5th of July, you better believe the Porsche 911 GT3 Cups will be there, too. This year the opening race is happening on the former A1 Ring in Aichfeld, which is part of Upper Styria. This renowned Alpine circuit has been a part of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup from 1997 to 2003 and again since 2014 for a total of 13 races. Surrounded by mountain slopes along three sides of the circuit, Spielberg has the character of an arena built solely for exciting duels – on slicks, of course!

Welcome to the summit of international racing.

The opening race weekend of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup begins Friday, 3rd July with a Free Practice Session. The Qualifying Session scheduled for Saturday will decide the starting grid for Sunday’s Race Day. The first race of the 2020 Season is Sunday at 12:25 CEST – 17 thrilling laps of pure racing action.

We’re ready to get this season started. All teams and participants are extremely motivated, and fast. We’ve seen this firsthand during the test days here in Spielberg.

Oliver SchwabProject Manager of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup

The Supercup field is composed of the best teams and drivers from the national Porsche one-make cups. Many familiar faces from the 2019 season are not in this year’s line-up, including defending champion Michael Ammermüller. However, we welcome two freshman teams: Team GP Elite and CLRT, who both are poised to compete for victory. Approximately 50% of this year’s drivers are new to the series, including many rookies, which underlines the relevance of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup and its promotion of young racing talent.

Fun fact: only Porsche Junior drivers have stood at the top of Spielberg’s podium since 2016. We’re curious whether this years’ juniors, #4 Jaxon Evans (NZL/BWT Lechner Racing) or #22 Ayhancan Güven (TUR/martinet by ALMÉRAS) will continue the trend and manage a podium finish. Switch on Sport1, Eurosport or Formula 1 TV and watch it live!
