Right into the corkscrew. Race 2 of the IMSA iRacing Pro Series.

What's the saying? The show must go on. This is also true for motorsports. Right now, all races can only be driven virtually, but that's exactly what sparks the interest of many motorsport fans of simracing.

Immediately after the official announcement that the planned Super Sebring weekend could not take place, the organisers of the IMSA presented a virtual alternative plan. The birth of the IMSA iRacing Pro Series.

The grid is limited to 50 racers. They drive on the well-known iRacing.com platform – also the home of the virtual One-Make-Series of Porsche Motorsport.

Last night saw the second race of the IMSA iRacing Series take place in Laguna Seca.

The Porsche GT Team participated with three racing drivers: the experienced IMSA drivers Nick Tandy (#911) and Laurens Vanthoor (#912) were supported by Porsche Junior driver Ayhancan Güven (#913).

The 90-minute race on the Laguna Seca circuit had some surprises in store: in the first half of the race, Güven used all his simracing experience and drove up to 5th place. Nick Tandy right behind him in 11th place. Nick took advantage of the planned full-course yellow phase of the race to make a strategically important pit stop. With a fresh set of tyres, he was fully prepared to start the chase in the second half. But fortune denied him the great race to catch up. After a fierce collision, Tandy finished the race in 25th place. Laurens Vanthoor ended up in 23rd place. The big surprise of the evening was again Ayhancan Güven. He was able to defend his hard-fought 5th place until the end of the race.

The next IMSA iRacing race is set to take place on 30 April on the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

On Saturday, the race action will continue on the virtual race tracks of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup.
