Our 2019: a year of highlights.

The year is coming to an end and the well-earned winter break is just around the corner. Time to take a look into the rearview mirror and take a look at the highlights of 2019, at and on the international racetracks.

Much has happened. One race chased the next. And thank goodness for that! The year 2019 was one of the most successful of our motorsport history. We won titles in the 3 most important international GT race series: In the Intercontinental GT Challenge, we scored the manufacturer title, and the first and second spot of the driver and team titles. Meanwhile, we also took the titles in the IMSA and WEC, tying into our previous accomplishments in endurance championships. In many other races, we were able to secure championship and race wins, including a convincing entry into the Formula E. With the Porsche 99X Electric, we introduced our first fully electric race car to the racetrack and saw off our GT spearhead, the 911 RSR, after 3 incredible years. It’s successor already started off impressively with the first victories in the FIA WEC.

Uncharted waters Formula E: a surprise for everyone.

This year, we were particularly busy with our entry into the Formula E. The preparations were intense: Meticulously planned the start into the season, developed the car, tested and refined it over thousands of kilometers. We wanted to present the vehicle in a fitting setting, and it was a novelty in racing: The final reveal of the Porsche 99X Electric took place in an interactive game on the gaming platform Twitch – together with the two TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team pilots Neel Jani and André Lotterer, who revealed the car with the help of the players. Something that has never been done before and perfectly fits to the Formula E. That the trip to the first race in Riad would be so successful was wholly unexpected. The first race, the first podium finish. André Lotterer took the 2nd place on the demanding street circuit. We’re still elated and excited for the next race in the upcoming year.

GT in our veins, 24/7.

When the rearview mirror check goes beyond the Formula E, and further to other racing series, you’ll find our love of a lifetime: the races of the international GT series.

Here we can also admit to a more than successful year, no matter the length of the race. We saw action with factory cars as well as in customer teams on tracks all around the world. Among them: placements in the Top 10 in the 24 Hours Nürburgring and in Le Mans. Particularly in the extreme circumstances during the 24-hour classic in Spa we managed to succeed: After a difficult race, we could record another Porsche victory in Spa-Francorchamps with our customer team GPX Racing in the 911 GT3 R. To complete our triumph in Spa, ROWE Porsche achieved places 2 and 3, establishing further 911 vehicles in the top 10. Definitely one of our highlights: the return of the Kyalami race. After years of hiatus, the race returned to the racing calendar. Our customer team Frikadelli Racing could win this special race in South Africa for us and with this victory, also scored the manufacturer and driver titles of the IGTC. Additionally, GPC Racing finished on 3rd place with the Porsche 911 GT3 R. In the IMSA series, something special was waiting for us during Petit Le Mans: Not only the good ranking of both 911 RSR was an achievement, but we were especially thrilled by the livery of the 911. During the last performance of the ‘old’ RSR, we entered with the Coca-Cola look that is steeped in history, reviving a long-standing partnership directly in Atlanta, the home of Coca-Cola.

A new home: the Porsche Motorsport Hub.

Moving to the Motorsport Hub was surely an important change for our fans. Now, all essential information on Porsche Motorsport, vehicles, races and race reports are in our new Hub – including interactive polls and regular quizzes. This way, we took the chance to gather our stories and retell them. Particularly after a successful year such as 2019.

Beside this small collection of memorable moments, we could win countless other titles. Before we continue in that same strong vein, achieving success and continuing onward with all we have, we want to take a breather – together. You’ll soon find out what awaits us in the upcoming year. One thing is for sure: Great things are to come.
