Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup

In the 2019 season, the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup calendar again includes ten championship races at nine venues. Like in previous years, all races of the most international one-make cup, which was introduced in 1993, are contested as support to the Formula One World Championship. The season runs from the second weekend in May with the start of the European Formula One season in Barcelona (Spain) and concludes on the last weekend in October with a double-header event on the Grand Prix circuit in Mexico City. Between these dates, spectators can witness the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup racers in action at Monaco (Monte Carlo), Austria (Spielberg), Great Britain (Silverstone), Germany (Hockenheim), Hungary (Budapest), Belgium (Spa-Francorchamps) and Italy (Monza). “The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup exemplifies close competition with the greatest equality of opportunities. Our grid line-up consists of talented youngsters and seasoned GT specialists from all over the world,” says Oliver Schwab, the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup Project Manager.

All competitors race the latest version of the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. The rear of the new 911 GT3 Cup houses a powerful four-litre, six-cylinder flat engine. The unit develops a peak performance of 357 kW (485 hp), making it the most powerful race car in the history of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. All vehicles are technically identical, as are the tyres from Michelin and the fuel – guaranteeing equal chances for all drivers.

The series organisers continue the long tradition of running a VIP vehicle this season. At selected rounds, prominent personalities are behind the wheel of the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup as guest drivers. Lining up to contest the round in Silverstone is Chris Hoy. The Scot is a six-time Olympic champion in track cycling and won the European Le Mans LMP3 title in 2015. Last season, three such VIPs took up the challenge: Dakar Rally winner Matthias Walkner contested his home race in Spielberg, Austria, BBC’s Top Gear star Chris Harris competed at Silverstone, and current IndyCar driver Felix Rosenqvist stirred up the field at Spa-Francorchamps. The greatest success in the VIP Porsche was achieved by ex-Formula 1 world champion Mika Häkkinen. The Finn won his guest starts in Monaco and Budapest in 1993.

The 2019 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season marks an important step in the still young motor racing career of Jaxon Evans. As the new Porsche Junior, the youngster from New Zealand contests his maiden season in the fast one-make cup on an international stage. In 2018, Evans pocketed the title of the Porsche CarreraCup Australia. For Porsche Junior Julien Andlauer, 2019 marks the second Supercup season. The Frenchman gave a convincing performance last season with two victories at the double-header finale in Mexico City.
