Warm-up for the début season: in November, the Porsche Motorsport Team will compete in Formula E for the first time. Regular Porsche drivers, Neel Jani and André Lotterer, have just unveiled the new 99X Electric race car, with the help of the digital community.

Our début in the first all-electric race series is a milestone for our team and our fans. Because not only the drivetrain is new. The entire racing environment is also innovative: held in city centers, the action unfolds directly in front of the spectators. A new era, ushered in with an unprecedented vehicle première, which motorsport fans and e-athletes worldwide can attend. As part of the virtual-real live video game, “Formula E Unlocked”, broadcast on the live streaming video portal, Twitch.tv., the digital community guides Jani and Lotterer through the offices of Porsche Digital GmbH in Ludwigsburg. Because here, where Porsche staff develop innovations and concepts reaching far into the future on a daily basis, the new Formula E vehicle is hidden, waiting to be unveiled. An important assignment: fans give Jani and Lotterer specific instructions online, solving the set problems and puzzles together as a team.

It’s like a race before the race actually starts. After playing for almost four hours, the Porsche drivers roll past the sentinels and finally stand in front of the 99X Electric in a magnificent finish.

“A unique vehicle launch never before seen in the motorsport world,” says Jani. “It was great fun embarking on this virtual-real search for the Porsche 99X Electric together with the gamers.” Lotterer is also impressed: “It’s fantastic that we’re communicating with the digital target group on an equal footing, and involving them in the whole thing.”
