Porsche factory driver: Laurens Vanthoor

Laurens Vanthoor’s path to motorsport began with a dream of participating in Formula 1 and being in kart sports. It started out the traditional way: from the local leagues to the nationals, and finally the international stage. As the successes grew, so did the ambitions. At just 17 years of age in 2008, Laurens made the direct switch from the kart track to the Formula 3 in Germany. Vanthoor was set to race for VW, but the head of motorsports back then had his doubts on the inexperienced Belgian. But after just a year, Laurens Vanthoor proved that he had earned his spot.

Laurens Vanthoor headed to the European Formula 3. But after a triumphant start in 2008 and a solid performance in 2010, a streak of bad luck caught him in 2011. This led to him deciding to switch to GT motorsport.

Just as he did in Formula 3, the Belgian immediately started strong. For three years, he achieved victory over victory for his team. But Laurens Vanthoor wanted more. He wanted to enter the LMP1 class of the World Endurance Championship for Audi and to achieve that, he began in the LMP2 class in 2015. Unfortunately, the opportunity at Audi was denied to him after their withdrawal from the LMP1 class.

It was the recommendation of the Head of Audi Motorsport that brought Laurens Vanthoor to Porsche. And since then, he has won multiple times with the 911 RSR.

You get what you think.

Years ago, Laurens Vanthoor dreamed of participating in Le Mans in the LMP1 class. Now, it’s not LMP1, but he has the chance to race to the overall victory in Le Mans in the new Hypercar class of the WEC. And with a victory in Le Mans and Daytona, he would achieve his current goal: to win the four great 24-hour races.
