Six Porsche Customer Racing Teams will be participating in various driving categories of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship: Spectators can witness even more Porsche in action in the GTP, GTD Pro and GTD classes.
Beginning in 2024, JDC-Miller Motorsports and Proton Competition will be fielding two Porsche 963 in the GTP class of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. Both teams have already completed their first runs with their hybrid prototypes in the 2023 season. JDC-Miller Motorsports finished in the Top Five in four of six races with their yellow Porsche 963 #5, while Proton Competition finished third at Petit Le Mans with their #59 car.
Strong representation: The Porsche 911 GT3 R
Five Porsche Customer Racing Teams will field a total of six Porsche 911 GT3 R in the GT classes: AO Racing, Kelly-Moss with Riley, Andretti Motorsports, Wright Motorsports and MDK Motorsports.
The Kelly-Moss with Riley team was formed as a collaboration between Kellymoss Road and Race, and Riley Technologies. Kelly-Moss has an impressive racing history: they hold the record of most races won in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge and Porsche Sprint Challenge in the USA. Now, they are ready to take on the challenge of the GT classes in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship together with Riley Technologies and two GT3 R's. They will be running car number 92 in the GTD Pro class and with the number #91 in the GTD class.
AO Racing will also be competing in the GTD Pro class. Founded just last year by PJ Hyett and Gunnar Jeannette, the team has already made a name for itself in its first year in the IMSA with their Porsche 911 GT3 R – or as they call it "the no. 80 Tyrannosaurus Rex Porsche 911 GT3 Rawr", Rexy. The team has already registered for the 24 Hours of Daytona with proven driver Sebastian Priaulx and Porsche Driver Laurin Heinrich.
In the GTD class, MDK Motorsports will field two vehicles in 2024 after a top-10 finish at the 24 Hours of Daytona in 2023: The Team will enter with two Porsche 911 GT3 R in the GTD class. The vehicle numbers 53 and 96 will make their first joint appearance at the 24 Hours of Daytona.
Another familiar team in the GTD class is Wright Motorsports. They scored the eighth rank of the class championship in 2023 after having scored the third spot on the podium in Lime Rock Park and Petit Le Mans. From 2024 onwards, they will be participating with the car number #120.
A new member among the Porsche Customer Racing Teams will be Andretti Motorsports. The team has previously competed in select races in 2023 with a different car. For Daytona, the team has already reserved the car number #43 and the drivers Jarett Andretti, Gabby Chaves and Scott Hargrove.
Depending on the level of factory support, the customer teams will receive support from the Porsche team in the form of engineers and factory drivers. With the knowledge and support of the factory, the customer teams can perform to the best of their ability with their vehicles and both sides benefit from the exchange. After all, every victory of a Customer Racing Team is also a victory for Porsche Motorsport.
