911 GT3 R

Only those who accept the challenge will unleash his strength. Only those who unleash his strength will survive on the race track. One thing is certain: you can go to the limits with him - to the limits of physics, the curve, and your own abilities. But there is one thing you can't do: stop him.

Flacht was its cradle. And its genes - 911. It is at home in the most demanding races in the world. Whether it’s sprint races or long-distance, on the Nordschleife or in Daytona, it doesn’t understand the meaning of ‘No’. It is the most versatile GT customer race car that we’ve ever built. And its latest version is more aggressive than ever before. Its design accents in Lizard Green, the punchy communication color of the 911 GT3 RS, are an even greater indication of the vehicles' shared roots. The car also boasts increased driving comfort for optimum conditions in the cockpit, and handling that makes it one of the strongest competitors in GT sport – this is the new 911 GT3 R. A challenger.

The design

Endurance? That can be learned. Strength? That can be developed. Speed? Just a matter of practice. But your maximum potential is decided by your genes. Based on the road-approved 911 GT3 RS*, the new 911 GT3 R is a 911 through and through. What does that mean? It means this car is the motorsport version of a concept that from the very beginning was developed with the race track in mind. And that fact is evident in every last detail. Design accents in Lizard Green complement the 911-typical silhouette and are a visual statement that the new 911 GT3 R is thirsting for a challenge on the race track. Carbon-fiber bodywork reduces the vehicle weight even further. The result: increased agility and a precision that is without equal in GT sport. Its further improved aerodynamics provide even more precision. The production elements based on the 911 GT3 RS* and the components constructed especially for this model have been perfectly synchronized and further optimized for motorsport. We have also concentrated on its most important performance factor: the driver. The new center console, geared to the driver, and the multifunction ‘multi-touch panel’ mean that the operation of the vehicle is even more direct and intuitive. The air conditioning with active seat and helmet ventilation maintains the perfect temperature in the cockpit, meaning the driver can concentrate on what really matters, the race track. Of course, we have also considered those moments where the new 911 GT3 R isn't racing through the curves: pit stops. Quick-release fasteners on the vehicle allow body parts to be changed quickly, while the fuel filler cap can also be configured in a way that enables it to be accessed from the opposite side of the vehicle.

The drive

Some are searching for freedom. Others are searching for happiness. The 911 GT3 R is searching for one thing above all: the next challenge. The new 911 GT3 R is driven by a water-cooled four-liter four-valve flat-six engine in the rear. The direct fuel injection (DFI) ensures maximum fuel efficiency, optimized for Super Plus, lead-free, up to 20 E. The power of the rear-mounted engine is transmitted to the rear wheels through the Porsche six-speed sequential constant-mesh gearbox, which, together with the single-mass flywheel, generates an even more precise throttle response. The rocker switches on the steering wheel activate the gear changes and can be individually adjusted – just like the pedals. The integrated dry-sump lubrication with oil/water heat exchanger ensures an optimal engine temperature at all times. Even after 24 hours of action.

The brakes

If you want to push the 911 GT3 R to its limits, you have to be fast. Even when it comes to negative acceleration. The vehicle achieves its deceleration with the six-piston aluminum monobloc fixed brake calipers on the front axle and the four-piston units on the rear. Two separate brake circuits for the front and rear axle allow the brake balance to be set from the cockpit combined with revised ABS electronics. This provides maximum control and achieves the best possible braking power, under any conditions.

The chassis

They say that vehicle construction is linked to the vehicle’s center of gravity. What the new 911 GT3 R gravitates towards: being ready for any challenge. Roof, front lid, front apron, wings, doors, side sections, rear section and rear lid – vehicle components that are made of especially light carbon-fiber composite (CFC). After all, the new 911 GT3 R was primarily developed with superior handling in mind. Its lightweight construction body and chassis allow it to achieve a low and therefore more advantageous center of gravity. This contributes to its well-balanced handling and provides high stability under the effects of fast load changes and braking. But if you really want to feel at home on the race track, you have be able to rise to all its challenges: the shim concept allows quick changes to be made to the chassis for the first time. The pre-tensioning force of the limited-slip differential can be adjusted from outside the car. So the new 911 GT3 R is not only easier to drive, it also offers more options during set-up.

Safety

Even though it wants to take first place every time, and in every category, we paid strict attention to one thing when developing the new 911 GT3 R: we put safety first. ‘Uncompromising’ is the only way to describe how the new 911 GT3 R was streamlined to deliver faster lap times, and the same also applies to how it protects the driver: safety nets on both sides of the cockpit, a welded roll cage, a removable escape hatch in the roof, removable doors and polycarbonate door panels comply with the latest FIA requirements and guarantee the highest levels of safety. The racing bucket seat with six-point connection improves the stability of the driver and ensures the best position is maintained in the event of an accident. Bosch CAS Race Ready (Collision Avoidance System) shows what is happening behind the vehicle on the camera display, and gives active warning should other vehicles attempt to overtake. But its safety concept extends beyond the cockpit: the FT3 safety fuel tank includes a ‘fuel cut-off’ safety valve, which prevents the accidental release of fuel.
