Highlight of the Supercup season: the 8th and final round in Monza.

Monza. The name alone conjures up images of Italian heritage and pure speed. And speed is exactly what the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars of the Supercup will be all about during the grand finale of the 2024 season. Sii pronto!

As the third-largest urban area in Lombardy – one of Italy’s most economically powerful regions – Monza is renowned for its industry, rich cultural history, and Italy’s largest walled park. It was within this park that, in 1922, the first motor race on a purpose-built oval circuit with impressive banked curves took place. While only fragments of the old track remain, the spirit of motorsport is very much alive here.

The Formula 1 circuit, Autodromo Nazionale Monza, is one of the most iconic tracks in motorsport. Often referred to as the "Temple of Speed," it’s one of the fastest circuits in the world, featuring long straights and a few famous corners with names that resonate not only with every Tifosi: Parabolica, Lesmo, and Variante Ascari. Since 1998, with a brief pause, the Porsche Supercup has also raced here as part of the Formula 1 Gran Premio d’Italia. This season, the series concludes here for the 10th time. It’s no surprise – the track, with its ample overtaking opportunities, is perfectly suited for nail-biting final races.

The Champion will be crowned in Monza.

Where Lombard kings once celebrated their coronations, the 2024 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup championship will also be decided. Two-time champion of the series, Larry ten Voorde (NLD), is within touching distance of his third title. Only Harry King (GBR) can still pose a threat, but he enters the final race 20 points behind. To win, he must take victory – and Ten Voorde can’t score more than 4 points.

The Rookie Championship battle is even tighter, with Kas Haverkort (NLD) leading the standings by just 6 points over fellow Dutchman Robert de Haan. In this classification, points earned in the overall standings count, so De Haan needs to finish significantly ahead of Haverkort if he wants to snatch the Rookie title in Monza. The only championship already decided is the team title: Schumacher CLRT from the Arrondissement of Lyon will travel to Italy with their first title. The decision came in dramatic fashion at Zandvoort, where BWT Lechner Racing's Robert de Haan was demoted a position by the stewards for causing a collision, costing the Austrian team the crucial three points to the French squad.

The Champion and Rookie Champion titles in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, as so often, will be decided in the final race. That just shows how closely matched the competition is in this international one-make series. If you love thrilling motorsport, you’re in the right place!

In Monza, a total of 32 drivers will be hunting for points, including several guest drivers. As you might expect, Italy will have the strongest national representation, much to the delight of the Tifosi. The two Italian guest teams alone, The Driving Experiences and Prima Ghinzani Motorsport, field five drivers from Italy. Among them is Supercup veteran Simone Iaquinta, who finished third in last year’s Monza showdown. The full entry list can be downloaded here as a PDF.
