Four consecutive Porsche Supercup races unbeaten, 26 points ahead in the championship – Larry ten Voorde enters the race weekend at the Hungaroring with great dominance. Will there be a revolution from the challengers?
In 1986, the Hungaroring hosted its first Formula 1 race, making it the first F1 venue behind the Iron Curtain. Now part of the EU, Hungary’s circuit remains a fixture of Formula 1, confirmed at least until 2032. This also makes it a key stop in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season. The combination of scorching race days in the Hungarian summer and long, party-filled nights in the nearby capital, Budapest, makes the Hungaroring a magnet for fans: in 2023, over 100,000 motorsport enthusiasts packed the stands daily.
For mechanics, race engineers, and drivers, the track is a formidable challenge. The narrow, winding course lives up to its reputation as the "world’s biggest kart-track," testing both man and machine to their limits. When your head is already spinning from processing telemetry data, finding the perfect vehicle setup and tyre pressure becomes even trickier in temperatures reaching up to 40°C.
High noon in Hungary – LtV vs. the rest of the field.
Larry ten Voorde isn't likely to be fazed by the heat. As in the previous races this season, he will push himself and his team to the limit at the Hungaroring to maintain his lead. The competition is fierce, but no one in the Porsche Supercup has managed to take points from him yet. However, if we look at the recent results from the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland in Hungary, things could turn out differently. The race winners there were Marvin Klein (FRA) and Kas Haverkort (NLD), both of whom are also active in the Porsche Supercup. Additionally, perennial rival Harry King (GBR) will be aiming for the top spot once again – he stood on the top podium at the 2023 Supercup race in Hungary.
In the Rookie Classification, it's still a tight race at the halfway mark after Silverstone. Leader Kas Haverkort is just 1 point ahead of his pursuer, Robert de Haan (NLD). De Haan's teammate Theo Oeverhaus (DEU), Mathys Jaubert (FRA) from Martinet by Alméras, and a few others could still contend for the Rookie Champion title if they step up their game in Hungary. We’re eager to see who can keep a cool head in the heat and wait for the perfect moment to make that decisive overtaking move.
