Welcome to the kingdom of motorsport: Round 4 at Silverstone.

From an old air force base in Northamptonshire, Round 4 heads straight to the stars – or into the gravel. Briton Harry King needs full concentration to finally take points off leader Larry ten Voorde on his home track.

When the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup joins the Formula 1 entourage at Silverstone, drivers from all teams understand that winning here elevates them in the motorsport hierarchy. The circuit is the crown jewel of British racing and one of the most renowned tracks in the world.

Originally an air force base, Silverstone's runways were converted into a racetrack after World War II – a common practice in Great Britain, as seen with other circuits like Snetterton, Goodwood, and Thruxton. Today, only the names of the Hangar and Wellington Straights hint at its military past. Racing the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup here must feel like a mix of jet takeoff and landing for the drivers: high-speed sections contrast with brutal braking and sharp steering. Various legendary corners and combinations, led by Maggotts/Becketts/Chapel, enhance the driving appeal of Silverstone, aside from the track's prestige. Adding to the challenge is the weather on the British Isles: capricious, unpredictable, and a constant puzzle for race engineers striving to perfectly tune the car to the track.

British Racing Green: All hell breaks loose around the circuit.

In Silverstone, you immediately feel that Great Britain is a motorsport nation. The setting includes not only hundreds of thousands of racing-crazed fans but also everyone who is anyone in British racing: FIA officials, racing drivers, former champions, media representatives, starlets, the beautiful and wealthy, celebrities, and those aspiring to be. This was also the case at the first British Grand Prix of Formula 1 in 1948 – tradition obliges.

A home race is special for any driver, and for me that’s Silverstone – I’m determined to get redemption from 2023.

Given Silverstone's significance, it's no surprise that the field of guest drivers has a distinctly British flair. English teams Century Motorsport and JTR are entering 3 and 2 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, respectively, with British drivers. Proton Huber Competition (DEU) has brought a fourth car, piloted by Brit Joshua Stanton, just like last year. Together with Harry King, Great Britain is the dominant nation at Round 4. Whether this impresses championship leader Larry ten Voorde (NLD) remains to be seen.
