On 10th July 1994 – forty-four years after the first Formula 1 Grand Prix at Silverstone – the Porsche Supercup field raced over its British asphalt for the first time. The race was won by Briton’s Kelvin Burt which, incidentally, was to remain his only race victory in the Porsche Supercup.

 

But there’s been plenty of other success stories on this popular traditional circuit since: In 2010, for example, former Porsche factory driver Nick Tandy secured his first Porsche Supercup race victory here and was the season’s runner-up closely behind René Rast. Sven Müller and Ayhancan Güven also have fond memories of Silverstone: Müller won here in his Supercup championship year in 2016, among others, while Güven, now an official Porsche Driver, took the first Turkish Supercup victory on this track in 2019.

The secret to success on the 5.898 km-long Silverstone Circuit is maintaining the perfect rhythm over the many fast and medium–paced corners. Only then do drivers achieve optimal flow. All drivers in the 2022 Supercup field face this challenge, especially #25 Larry ten Voorde (NLD/GP Elite), who took the coveted victory trophy from here back to the Netherlands in 2020. Right behind him in the overall ratings is #5 Dylan Pereira (LUX/BWT Lechner Racing), who, like the other direct challengers #6 Harry King (GBR/BWT Lechner Racing) and #3 Laurin Heinrich (DEU/SSR Huber Racing), will put a lot of pressure on the front. After all, this championship is still wide open for the taking.

A total of 32 cars will go to the Supercup race at Silverstone, including four with guest drivers – two of them from the guest team Kelly Moss Road and Race from the USA. At Team CLRT, #13 Adam Smalley is the fourth Briton in the field at the wheel of a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. The race on Sunday will reveal whether they can exploit the home advantage.

The Qualifying Session follows on Saturday evening at 7:15 pm (CEST) – and on Sunday at 1:05 pm (CEST) the field will begin the third round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2022.
