Prelude WEC 2022: Porsche starts the new season with two 911 RSRs

In the anniversary year of the World Endurance Championship, the FIA WEC presents a record field of 39 race cars. --- Porsche will be starting with two works racing 515-hp 911 RSR cars in the 2022 season. In the race car with the starting number 91, Gianmaria Bruni from Italy and the Austrian Richard Lietz will again take turns behind the wheel.

Our Porsche 911 RSR is mature, the team is perfectly in tune. The ingredients for a possible renewed success after 2019 are at hand. The goal can only be class victory - there's no question about that at all.

In the number 92 Porsche fraction, the Frenchman Kévin Estre will be joined by the experienced Dane Michael Christensen. The duo took a thrilling class win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans three years ago. "We have very clear goals: Winning the world championship and class victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. We want to lay the foundation for a very successful season immediately at the season opener at Sebring," says Kévin Estre.

The WEC event begins next weekend in the "Sunshine State" Florida with two prologue test days, which will then be followed by the 1000 miles on the hot asphalt at Sebring International Raceway on March 18. "The track in Florida has a great history and some special features. The track surface is very old, partly consisting of concrete slabs. The hard bumps challenge the car and us drivers enormously," enthuses Christensen.

 

On June 11 and 12, 2022, the two Porsche 911 RSR cars will then compete in the 90th edition of the endurance classic 24 Hours of Le Mans.

 

The two driver crews will be supported at the WEC highlight by works drivers Frédéric Makowiecki from France (#91) and the Belgian Laurens Vanthoor (#92).

We have a very special season ahead of us: It is the last year of our works racing mission with the 911 RSR in the GTE-Pro class. We have celebrated many victories since 2013 and want to write a fitting final chapter in 2022.
