Just a few days until the season finale of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2020, and the location couldn’t be better. The Autodromo Nazionale Monza is the fastest circuit on the racing calendar, and only here will the title be decided.
In terms of excitement, it’s almost impossible to beat the level at which we are heading into Round 8 of the Supercup season. The field is expected to grow to an astounding 30 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars this weekend; all poised to enter the time-honoured circuit as part of the Formula 1 Gran Premio Heineken D’Italia 2020. And the three titles in the Overall, Rookie and Team Classification are still up for grabs.
Only four points separate #2 Dylan Pereira (LUX/BWT Lechner Racing) and #25 Larry ten Voorde (NED/Team GP Elite), who are in a head-to-head battle for the Overall Championship crown. Theoretically speaking, even #22 Ayhancan Güven (TUR/Martinet by Alméras) could have a chance of winning the Supercup, provided ten Voorde and Pereira (in a highly unlikelyscenario), don’t finish the race, that he’d have to win of course. That being said, there have been some rousing final races in Supercup history – for example Uwe Alzen vs. Altfrid Heger 1993 in Hockenheim.
