Ardennes awaiting.

Welcome to one of racing’s few remaining original tracks: the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, stop five on our tour. To motorsport fans’ delight, this race track has retained much of its unbridled 1921 character, despite having undergone some modifications.

Accurately referred to as “Tobogan of the Ardennes”, Spa’s 7.004km long track boasts altitude differences of nearly 100 metres between its high and low points, and legendary corner combinations like Eau Rouge and Raidillon. It’s no wonder that the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup drivers are looking forward to Round 7, which is part of the Formula 1 Rolex BelgianGrand Prix 2020.

Spa makes all drivers’ hearts beat faster. It’s one of the best circuits in Europe.

Compression and centrifugal forces are the most notable attributes of the historic course located in the forest regions near the Belgian-German border. And like other tracks, having the right set-up is absolutely crucial in order for the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars not to lose grip during the exhilarating corners, ascents and descents. The Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps seems exactly the right place for the penultimate race of the turbulent 2020 season. So far the highlight has been Round 6’s race in Barcelona.

11 decisive laps are pending.

There’s a wave of momentum building from the drivers and teams coming from Spain toWallonia. Nevertheless, there will be some fresh faces joining us in Spa, including Bas Koeten Racing, a new guest team from the Netherlands. It will be interesting to see how both of its drivers, #35 Loek Hartog (NLD) and #36 Maxime Oosten (NLD), will stack-up against the already established participants. After all, it was Hartog who placed 3rd in 2019’s Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux and definitely impressed us with his guest performance at thePorsche Mobil 1 Supercup Virtual Edition in April on the Spa-Francorchamps circuit.

#2 Dylan Pereira (LUX/BWT Lechner Racing) and #22 Ayhancan Güven (TUR/Martinet byAlméras) took one victory each during the virtual races in Spa. If Güven still wants any sort of chance to take home the championship title, he urgently needs to match his digital performance during the real race this weekend. Pereira, on the other hand, will do just about anything to cross the finish line ahead of current overall leader, #25 Larry ten Voorde (NED/Team GP Elite). This kind of tension is exactly the kind of fuel needed to fire-up aninternational one-make cup series like the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup.

Turn it on and hold your breath.

We’ll be picking up speed as we head into the race weekend starting with the Free Practice Session on Friday evening, 28th August 2020. The Qualifying Session on Saturday at 1:45pm (CEST) will define the grid positions in the penultimate race. Round 7 of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup as part of the Formula 1 Rolex Belgian Grand Prix 2020 will start on Sunday at 12:25pm (CEST). As always you can catch all the motorsport action live on Sport 1, Eurosport and Formula 1 TV. We’re looking forward to a spectacular race as we make our way to theseason’s final!
