Back for real: the Supercup Race Calendar 2020

The smell of hot asphalt. The roar of six-cylinder Porsches. Champagne celebrations. Unbridled enthusiasm. Live again beginning July 3 on Europe’s most beautiful racetracks. Finally!

The last weeks have been a true trial of perseverance and commitment for all Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup drivers, teams and participants. As if being held prisoner without the ability to live out one’s burning passion. Despite the Virtual Edition happening in parallel with demanding mental, physical and agility training, nothing compares to driving a real Porsche 911 GT3 Cup on a real racetrack.

So, it goes without saying that we cannot be more pleased that the series can begin again. We’re looking forward to eight exciting races in Spielberg, Budapest, Silverstone, Barcelona, Spa and Monza. And we’re getting ready for thrilling duels, including the continuation of the Virtual Edition head-to-head battle between Porsche Junior #22 Ayhancan Güven (TUR/martinet by ALMÉRAS) and #25 Larry ten Voorde (NLD/Team GP Elite).

As the worldwide pinnacle of the numerous Porsche one-make cups, the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup occupies a special spot on the international racing calendar. One of the reasons for this is it’s exclusivity being a part of the Formula 1’s supporting programme. That being said, the Cup series should not be mistaken as being a F1 warm-up race. The Supercup teams and drivers perform at the highest calibre; many leading the fields at the national Porsche one-make cups. Those who can assert themselves as drivers in the Supercup series often move on to become factory drivers for Porsche or another manufacturer.

The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup has a great reputation on the international racing scene – especially among the younger drivers. Success with our series usually accelerates racing careers.

It’s an outstanding achievement for a team to win against top drivers in identical cars, under identical conditions. Simply put, the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup is best adapted to the respective racetrack. And once in the cockpit, it comes down to a bit of nerves and the interplay between fraction-of-a-second throttle and steering that ultimately decides a victory or a defeat.

Even though this year no spectators are allowed at the track, all races will be broadcast live on Eurosport and Sport1. In addition, the races can be watched from the F1 live stream. A summary of race highlights will also be available here on the Porsche Motorsport Hub.
