Grande Finale Virtuale.

With the outbreak of the pandemic in mid-March, it was questionable if the pinnacle of the worldwide Porsche one-make series, the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup would even happen. A few weeks later, we eagerly await the finale of the series’ Virtual Edition.

Leave it to Porsche to realise a first-class solution to what seemed to be a hopeless situation. Together with iRacing, Porsche was able to launch the Virtual Edition of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup – a SimRacing experience popular with both drivers and spectators. Pure virtual racing action and thrilling head-to-head showdowns have definitely been a highlight for motorsports fans the last few weeks.

Does the winner in Monza take the series victory?

After six races over three racing days, two of the 2020 drivers are on their way to be the Champion of the Virtual Edition. With only 2 points difference between them, #25 Larry ten Voorde (NLD/GP Elite, 130 points) is within striking distance of the leader #22 Ayhancan Güven (TUR/martinet by Alméras, 132 points). But let’s not forget #2 Dylan Pereira (LUX/BWT Lechner Racing, 91 points) who also has his bonnet directed towards the winner’s podium. Behind the top three are also a few tense battles for positions: #7 Joey Mawson (AUS/FACH AUTO TECH) on the 4th place is only four short points ahead of #81 Nick Tandy (GBR/ExxonMobil Oil Corporation – Mobil 1), who with 50 points is tied with #4 Jaxon Evans (NZL/MOMO Megatron Lechner Racing). Monza is one of Jaxon’s favorite tracks, so will he be able to cash in on it? As he demonstrates in the video, he certainly knows how to best attack it virtually. There’s also an exciting dual in the rear midfield where both Dinamic Motorsport teammates #10 Marius Nakken (NOR) and #11 Jaden Conwright (USA) share 11th place with 31 points. Heading into Race Day in Monza, one thing is clear: nothing is for free, and definitely not a win. Not only is Monza’s uniqueness in its historical importance to racing, but it’s also one of the fastest racetracks in the series.

A Grande Finale suited for a King.

The Autodromo Nazionale Monza is located inside the Royal Palace grounds of Monza and is a phenomenally picturesque setting for the last two races of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. This racetrack promises a number of high-speed chases along the nearly 5.8km track, which also boasts 10 luscious curves with sonorous names like the legendary Parabolica or the curve-combi Curve di Lesmo. And in between, there are more full-throttle lines than on any other track in the series.

On first glance, the layout of the Autodromo Nazionale tempts most drivers to put the pedal to the metal for 70% of the route, which is why Monza is so popular among drivers and spectators – even though the circuit has been tamed by numerous chicanes since 1922. So it’s a fitting setting for ‘Il Grande Finale.’

And it’s incredibly easy to be there. The final rounds (7 & 8) of the #virtualPMSC at Autodromo Nazionale Monza will be broadcast live on Saturday, May 16th from 4:00pm (CEST) here at the Porsche Motorsport Hub.
