Coca-Cola and Porsche: true icons.

When the black and white chequered flag falls after ten exhausting hours on October 12th, not only will the Motul Petit Le Mans be over, but also the 2019 IMSA season.

For us, this will also mean a generation change. Because the 911 RSR, the spearhead of the 911, will be replaced by the next generation after three successful years in international GT motorsport.

The 911 RSR will make its final appearance entirely in red. To be more precise: in bright Coca-Cola red. As a tribute to Robert “Bob” Akin, one of the motorsport greats. It was Akin who first brought the Coca-Cola design to a Porsche race car. He achieved podium finishes at legendary races such as the 24h of Daytona with his Coke Porsche cars – including the Porsche 935 and Porsche 962.

The Coca-Cola livery is now being revived on the 911 RSR. As the perfect outfit for the Motul Petit Le Mans weekend. Since 1998, this ten-hour endurance race has been held in Atlanta, the home of Coca-Cola. We are, therefore, competing in the colours of the home team. And looking forward to this cooperation bringing together probably the two most iconic shapes in industrial design: the silhouette of the Porsche 911 and the Coca-Cola bottle, with its unmistakeable contours and cursive script. Bob Akin's race cars always featured the word “Lady” on the front in this very same font. An idiosyncrasy of the racing driver who believed that if he treated his “Lady” right, she would in turn take good care of him. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that this will again be the case.
